Factory Reset
- Tip: If you the password has been changed and you do not know what the new one is, press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds to restore factory defaults.
Telkom specific ADSL settings (useful for 3rd party modems):
- Multiplex: LLC
- VPI: 8
- VCI: 35
Telkom Guest Account
- Telkom supplied modems will configure a guest account by default.
The guest account will allow you to connect to Telkom's website http://www.telkom.co.za for testing but not allow access to other pages.
- One of these can be configured in 3rd party supplied modems with these details
- Username: guest1@telkomadsl
- Password: guest1
- Note if you can connect to Telkom's site but no others:
- Your modem may have been reset to factory defaults, or
- Your ADSL line may be a newly installed line that has not yet been "verified" (see below).
Verify ADSL line on "self install"
- If your line has not been verified you will only be able to connect to Telkom's website and no others.
Setting Bridging Mode
- Bridging mode is required when an ADSL Modem is used with a Zslic server
- Look for settings like "1483 Bridged LLC"
- Netgear DG834 devices have an undocumented feature to set them into (and back from) bridging mode.
- From the modem Web interface type this in the address bar:
- Billion Modems have a number of confusing options. The correct one is: "Pure bridged LLC"
