SMTP (Outgoing Mail) Settings

Laptops, Smartphones and mobile devices

These devices are normally carried around and connected to multiple networks for internet access. Thus it is necessary to use "authenticated smtp" protocol, with a username and password, to send out your e-mail. Most modern devices will set this up by default. Modern devices will normally enable encryption by default as well.

Uses with e-mail accounts on ZSD servers

  • Server: smtp-auth.zsdmail.com
  • Port: 587
  • Encryption: TLS subscription is supported, but using it is optional.
  • Username and password required: Use the same as your incoming username and password.

Uses with e-mail accounts on hosted corporate servers

  • Server: <corporate server address> (eg "company.zls.co.za")

  • Port: 587
  • Encryption: TLS subscription is supported, but using it is optional.
  • Username and password required: Use the same as you incoming username and password.

Desktops and fixed devices

These devices can use an "smtp relay server" assigned to their local network. The following relays servers are provided for networks supported by ZSD.

  • If you are connecting through our "Capped" ADSL service of 'High Cap" ADSL service then you should use smtp-za.zsd.co.za
  • If you are connecting through our Uncapped ADSL services then you should use smtp-is.zsd.co.za.

Other commonly used SMTP servers used in South Africa, but not supported by ZSD are:

  • Axxess: Fixed LTE and ADSL services, smtp.internet.co.za
  • Cell C: smtp.cmobile.co.za
  • Vodacom: smtp.vodacom.co.za, smtp.vodamail.co.za
  • MTN: mail.mtn.co.za
  • iBurst: smtp.iburst.co.za, smtp.iburstsouthafrica.co.za (recommended). Avoid smtp.wbs.co.za as it is appears that it is no longer supported.

Fixed devices can also be configured to use "authenticated smtp" as above, but this might be slightly slower than a local smtp relay server.
